DJ Irrlicht
My musical work began when I was still at school and I jobbed in my free time as a DJ in the local youth club. After a short while I had the opportunity to take over and manage the club location in the Soteranum Kilchberg, Switzerland.
Soon the familiar disco sounds were mixed with new styles: New Wave, Acid House, EBM and New Beat. My local club "Step-In” was renamed to “The Tunnel”. During the following apprenticeship and through the contact with Renato Kienberger and Marc Homberger I had my first contacts with synthesizers and drum computers.
Fascinated by the incredible possibilities of the new musical technology at the time, I started my first attempts to compose my own sounds and songs and subsequently founded the band IRRLICHT. What started as a hobby in my own four walls, was presented to the world in the form of a live band with the release of a first album 2 years later.
During this start-up phase of “IRRLICHT”, Johannes Berthold from Illuminate got to notice me and shortly afterwards engaged me as a keyboarder with his extremely successful band. Without neglecting my own project of my heart IRRLICHT, Illuminate led me in my thirties across Germany, Poland and finally even Mexico.
Daniela Dietz, then singer of Illuminate, was engaged as a singer with IRRLICHT in 2001 and is still the voice and face of the band today. Renato and Marc from my first musical attempts with synthetic music have remained loyal companions and band members of IRRLICHT ever since.
In 2007, a DJ request from the Club X-Tra in Zurich reminded me of my roots on the turntable. At first very irregularly, later at ever more regular intervals I now had the opportunity to increase my activity as a DJ again. I believe that a DJ should primarily entertain and secondly introduce guests and listeners to new bands and songs without enforcing “ego-trips” on them.
My musical roots tend to lay in dark wave and synth pop. Nevertheless, a side-trip to guitar wave, industrial or even a quick detour to dubstep is rarely missing in my sets. My resident club is the wonderful Club X-Tra at Limmatplatz in Zurich, Switzerland.
